Nine Breath Practice: Reduces stress and encourages relaxation and Clarity

 Meditation Posture

Take a seat in a quiet place where you can relax.

  • Sit cross-legged on a cushion or upright in a chair.

  • Keep the spine straight and chest open.

  • Hands rest in your lap (palms up) or on your thighs.

  • Chin slightly tucked.

  • Feet flat on the ground if seated in a chair.

Visualizing the Three Channels:

Imagine three subtle energy channels in your body: SEE PHOTO

Central Channel

  • Begins about four finger-widths below the navel.

  • Runs straight up through the center of the body.

  • Opens at the crown of the head.

  • Color: clear blue light (Autumn sky) - Represents Awareness

  • Width: about the size of a milkshake straw.

Left Channel

  • Color: red -Represents Wisdom

  • Runs from below the navel up the left side of the central channel and behind the eye.

  • Connects to the left nostril.

  • Dimension: slightly thinner than central channel 

Right Channel

  • Color: white - Represents Skillful Means

  • Runs from below the navel up the right side and behind the eye.

  • Connects to the right nostril.

  • Dimension: slightly thinner than central channel

All three channels meet below the navel region.

The First 3 breaths - Purifying Anger -Repeat 3x

  • Raise left hand and with index finger, close the right nostril.

  • Inhale the pure air through the left nostril.  

Visualize pure sparkling clear white/blue light filling the left/red channel. 

  • Cross your hand over to the left side and close the left nostril exhale through the right nostril.  

Visualize Black smoke leaving through the right/white channel. It carries aggression, judgement, and anger.

  • Imagine the black smoke dissolves into space.

 The Second 3 breaths - Purifying Attachment -Repeat 3x

  • Change hands and close the left nostril.

  • Inhale the pure air through the right nostril. 

Visualize pure sparkling clear white/blue light filling the right/white channel.

  • Close the right nostril. 

  • Exhale through the left nostril.

Visualize Black smoke leaving through the left/red channel. It carries attachments, negative desires, and greed.

  • Imagine the black smoke dissolve into space.

The Concluding 3 breaths of the exercise - Purifying Ignorance - Repeat 3x

  • Rest both hands in your lap or on your knees.

  • Inhale through both nostrils. 

  • Visualize pure sparkling clear white/blue light filling the central channel.

  • Exhale through both nostrils.

Visualize black smoke leaving through both nostrils. It carries ignorance, dullness, zoning out, and doubt.

  • The black smoke dissolves into space.

Rest in Open Awareness

  • Breath naturally

  • Relax in meditation posture

  • Rest in open mind

  • Feel the clear, spacious nature of mind and being
